Update On The New Maps/Old Maps Situation (The Congressional And State Senate Maps)

April 8, 2022

MONROE COUNTY, NY – Rochester Judge Stephen Lindley has made a partial ruling.  Lindley’s ruling today is about the stay he ordered against Judge Pat McAllister’s decision that the new maps are unconstitutional.  Judge Lindley says, while waiting to see from the state court of appeals if the new maps are unconstitutional or constitutional, that both Judge McAllister and the state legislature can draw new back-up maps.

If the Democrats win the appeals court case, then Hochul’s maps will be used this year and for the next 10 years.

If the Republicans win the appeals court case, then the legislature will have a chance to draw the maps, and if the legislature does not draw up new maps at that point, Judge McAllister can order new maps himself.

The next court date for Judge Lindley is April 20.
