Hornell Police Might Soon Be Patrolling The Streets Of Arkport

February 12, 2025

Arkport Village Mayor George Prete and Hornell Mayor John Buckley have been in talks about possibly having Hornell Police patrol the streets to cut down on speeding drivers in Arkport. There’s been an ongoing series of conversations between the two mayors since last year. “We had a speed trailer set up on West Avenue,” Mayor Prete tells Wlea News. “We did this last year after we got many complaints about drivers speeding and passing school buses. There were drivers clocked at over 50 miles per hour, many of them were going 40-something, in a 30 mph zone. It’s been an accident waiting to happen and we want to try to control it,” the Arkport mayor said.

“We’ve had several conversations about this,” Mayor Buckley said. “We’re actually working on a proposal to present to the Village of Arkport, which would allow the Hornell Police Department to perform patrols there on a limited basis. So we’re working through the process and I’m hoping to present them with a proposal in the next several weeks,” Buckley said yesterday.
