This has been an extraordinary few days celebrating our nation’s 250th birthday. I am filled with such tremendous pride and reverence for our nation’s remarkable history and the exceptional citizens who have shaped it. I hope everyone had a chance to celebrate this historic milestone with family, friends, and neighbors. Over the past several days, I had the privilege of commemorating this historic occasion both in Philadelphia where our Founding Fathers declared America’s independence and back home in communities across New York’s 23rd District, where the values that have always made our nation great are alive and well. Standing in the room where the Declaration of Independence was signed, I was reminded that America was never guaranteed to succeed. Two hundred and fifty years ago, ordinary men made an extraordinary decision to risk everything for the radical idea that all people are created equal and endowed by their Creator with the unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They endured hardship, disagreement, and uncertainty, but they never lost sight of the cause of freedom. Even after winning independence, our Founding Fathers fiercely debated the future of our nation. They didn’t always agree, but they worked through their differences in good faith, ultimately giving the world the United States Constitution and proving that principled debate and compromise rooted in the principles outlined in the Declaration of Independence could build something truly extraordinary. That lesson is just as important today. At a time when it often feels easier to focus on what divides us, America’s 250th anniversary reminds us of the values that unite us: faith, freedom, opportunity, hard work, personal responsibility, and a belief that every generation has a responsibility to leave this country stronger than they found it. Throughout our history, America has overcome every challenge because we have never forgotten what makes us exceptional. And over these last 250 years, we have endured as the world’s beacon of liberty and opportunity. We are a nation where American ingenuity drives global advancements, neighbors help one another, communities come together, and anything is possible through determination and perseverance. As your Congressman, I carry that responsibility with me every day. It is an incredible honor to serve the people of New York’s 23rd District, and I remain committed to protecting the freedoms, values, and opportunities that generations of Americans have sacrificed to preserve.
