Supporters Of Kyle Amidon, Show Up For Canisteo Village Meeting

October 9, 2024

The Canisteo Village Board met Tuesday night. At the public comment part of the meeting, several supporters of longtime Canisteo Police Chief Kyle Amidon spoke. One of them asked, when is the Police Chief coming back? Mayor Monica Recktenwald replied that the village board did not start an investigation into Amidon, but a complaint letter came in and the mayor says the rules are, that the board had to forward the complaints on. One resident asked, “Why don’t you defend Kyle?” The mayor replied that she enjoyed working with Kyle Amidon, that he has not been suspended, that he is still getting paid.

A State Trooper who was present, asked if there was truth to online rumors, that the Village Board might possibly shut down the Canisteo Village Police Department. Mayor Recktenwald stated, “absolutely not.”

In other Canisteo Village news, West Main Street is being rezoned, from Orchard to North Street, and it’s going from a residential zone to a centralized business zone. They’re doing this for both the Citgo gas station and the existing businesses there.
