Two Criticisms Of The Bill That Kept The Gov’t Open

December 23, 2024

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand slammed the part of the last minute bill, to keep the government from shutting down, which excluded the WTC/9/11 first responder/survivor funding. Also, Congressman Nick Langworthy noted that while the current farm bill was extended, the new farm bill was not taken up for a vote.

See below:

FROM SENATOR KIRSTEN GILLIBRAND: Senator Gillibrand released the following statement on the exclusion of a provision to fund the World Trade Center Health Program in the end-of-year health extenders package: “I am deeply disappointed by the decision to not include the World Trade Center Health Program in the government funding bill. 9/11 responders and survivors are real people, not political chess pieces. Thousands of Americans risked their lives to protect our country in its darkest hour, and it is now our responsibility as members of Congress to be there for them as they continue to battle the horrific health ramifications from that day and the many days after.”

FROM CONGRESSMAN NICK LANGWORTHY: “The inclusion of agricultural and rural development priorities highlights why this legislation was worth supporting for our district. It extends the current farm bill through September 30, 2025, providing farmers the stability they need to navigate ongoing challenges. Agriculture is the heartbeat of rural America, and this legislation ensures that hardworking family farms remain strong. I’m deeply disappointed that Democrats played politics with our farmers’ livelihoods and blocked the 5-year Farm Bill that passed out of committee, but I’m optimistic that in the next Congress it will pass and will fight to include my bills that made it in the base text of this year’s bill.”
